The story in focus
Venmo announced a new rewards structure for its Venmo Credit Card that adds 1% extra cash back on dining and entertainment purchases split with friends in the app, on top of 3% automatic cash back, for up to 4% total. New cardholders can qualify starting October 15.
- Cardholders earn 3% automatic cash back on dining and entertainment, plus 1% more when they split a purchase with a Venmo friend and are repaid within 30 days.
- The card has no annual fee, no foreign transaction fees, deposits cash back daily, and has no daily cash back limit.
- New Venmo Credit Card applications are eligible for the structure beginning October 15; it is issued by Synchrony on the Visa network.

What changed
Venmo announced on October 5, 2026, that its Venmo Credit Card now earns up to 4% cash back on dining and entertainment. Cardholders get 3% automatically on eligible purchases in those categories and an additional 1% when they use the app's split transaction feature with a Venmo friend after the purchase and are paid back within 30 days.
The company describes split-to-earn as an industry-first feature. The card also earns 3% cash back when customers pay with Venmo at checkout, at small businesses with a Venmo business profile, and in peer-to-peer payments toggled for purchases, and 1% on everything else.
Who it affects
The change applies to people who open a new Venmo Credit Card beginning October 15, 2026. Venmo says more than 100 million Americans use its app to pay each other back, and the rewards structure targets shared dining and entertainment spending.
The card is issued by Synchrony on the Visa network. Venmo lists no annual fee, no foreign transaction fees, daily cash back deposits into the Venmo account, and no limits on daily cash back. Applying results in a hard credit inquiry if approved; Venmo says a declined application does not affect the applicant's credit score.
What is available
To split a purchase, cardholders open the app, go to the money tab, select their Venmo Credit Card and tap transactions, choose the purchase including tips or surcharges, add a payment note and send it. The extra 1% requires the split to be completed within 30 days of purchase.
Cash back can also be used to automatically purchase cryptocurrency with no transaction fees, subject to Venmo's terms. Full rewards terms are available through Venmo.
When can new Venmo Credit Card holders earn the extra 1% cash back?
Beginning October 15, 2026, new cardholders earn an additional 1% on dining and entertainment purchases when they split the transaction with a Venmo friend in the app and are repaid within 30 days.
