What is changing

At the Frankfurt Book Fair, Spotify said audiobook access will widen from 22 markets to more than 180 by the end of 2026, with pricing and availability varying by country. The company says the expansion puts more than 350,000 titles and over 120 languages in reach, including new catalogs in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Polish. Spotify says all its audiobook partnerships are non-exclusive.

How listeners get access

In new markets, eligible Premium subscribers get 12 hours of audiobook listening monthly, an option Spotify says is coming to Italy, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Poland, Chile, Norway and Peru, among others. Audiobooks+, a paid add-on for extra hours, is the primary route in markets across Africa, Asia and Argentina. Individual titles can also be bought and kept.

Page Match and Student plans

Page Match, which moves readers between print, e-book and audio, gains page-number support via scanning a book's ISBN barcode, and works in more than 30 languages. In November, Student plan users in Ireland, Belgium, Austria and Finland can add Audiobooks+. Spotify reports more than one million Audiobooks+ subscribers and over $100 million in annual recurring revenue.

Does Spotify's audiobook expansion replace Premium listening hours with an add-on?

No. Spotify says eligible Premium subscribers in new markets get 12 audiobook hours monthly within their plan, while Audiobooks+ is a separate paid add-on for extra hours and the primary access route in some regions.
